This backgammon games piece is one of a set of 28 games pieces which were made in the town of Eger in southern Germany in the 17th century. The disc is turned from sycamore. The portrait on the face has been built up from pieces of wood which were glued together and then carved to make a relief marquetry known as Eger work. |
